What is Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)?

Age relaxation applies in the upper age limit to the candidates belonging to the reserved categories of SC, ST, OBC, and women candidates. Selection Process to JRF:
A National Eligibility Test (NET) is commonly conducted by the UGC and the CSIR for the Junior Research Fellowship. This exam is conducted twice a year. In June and December, the exam is conducted.
- The UGC NET exam is conducted with two papers. Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is common to all the subjects with the paper testing general teaching and research aptitude. Paper II is related to the specific subject. In both the papers the minimum qualifying marks are to be attained by the applicants. Usually, the UGC NET is conducted for Assistant Professors and the JRF. The candidates who are qualified for Assistant Professors are not eligible for JRF.
- The CSIR UGC NET is conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) jointly. The exam is conducted in related subjects of science and engineering. The exam is divided into three parts. Part A, Part B, and Part C. Part A is the common exam conducted to test general aptitude and reasoning ability. Part B and Part C are conducted to evaluate the knowledge of the candidate in the selected subject. In all three parts, the applicants should score the minimum qualifying marks.
